About Brian
At Barberras Botanicals, we believe in the transformative power of natural remedies. Our Director, Brian, brings a wealth of experience and compassion to our company. At 50 years old, Brian has dedicated his life to helping others and advocating for holistic well-being.
Born in Germany on a military camp, Brian's upbringing was a blend of English and Scottish heritage, having a mother of Scottish heritage and a father of English heritage. He has spent many happy holidays in Scotland, creating a deep connection to the land and its natural beauty. Brian's journey has been one of resilience and self-discovery. After spending most of his life in Wakefield, he temporarily moved to Somerville, in Australia in 2000. It was during this time that Brian accepted his sexuality and returned home to embrace his true self.
Brian's life has been marked by significant challenges, including coming to terms with his sexuality, surviving child sexual abuse, and enduring mental health crises. Despite these hurdles, Brian has worked tirelessly for various charities, helping vulnerable individuals navigate social law problems. His dedication to mental health led him to serve as a Governor for the Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which solely helped and supported people with mental health conditions.
In 2015, Brian faced a new challenge when he was diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer. After life-saving surgery, he embraced a new chapter in his life, reigniting his love for creativity. Brian has had some of his paintings exhibited, and he has pushed his limits in various ways, including appearing on a famous game show and completing a stunt airplane session.
Brian's journey continued with roles as a Medicolegal Case Manager, which is of particular importance due to him getting first hand experience of the internal workings of the world of healthcare (Brian also obtained his Diploma in Legal Medicine while working in this role) and as a Cheesemaker for The Ethical Dairy her in Dumfries and Galloway. However, his personal experience with CBD oils, which helped manage his prostate cancer, and his yet to be diagnosed ADHD and/or Aspergers have inspired him to create Barberras Botanicals.
