N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a non-toxic stable form of L-Cysteine. NAC also has a high bioavailability, and can therefore be used by the human and animal body more efficiently.

NAC is an amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

NAC is considered ‘conditionally essential’ because the human and animal body can produce it from other amino acids. It becomes essential only when the dietary intake of methionine and serine is low.

Consuming adequate cysteine and NAC is important for various health reasons, including replenishing the most potent antioxidant in both human and animal bodies, Glutathione. These amino acids also help with chronic respiratory conditions in humans and animals, fertility, and brain health.

Barberras NAC Supplement is manufactured in the UK to GMP code of practice and supplied in innovative letterbox friendly and recyclable packaging.

These procedures ensure that the basic manufacturing practices and prerequisites necessary for product quality and safety are being followed so that we can guarantee you receive consistently high quality N Acetyl-Cysteine.

Further information

Dosage:

Barberras NAC capsules (600mg per capsule) have been formulated for use by humans but can be safely used by pets, with vets often recommending NAC supplementation. For use with pets we would recommend the following daily usage instructions:

Cats: 1/4 (150mg) capsule daily (in food)

Dogs: 1/4 (150mg) capsule for each 20 lbs (9kg) of body weight (in food).

To administer, it is best to mix the relevant weight of powder into the animals food but be aware NAC does have a Sulphur smell and this may be off putting for some animals.

Please Note: Dosage instructions on the bottle are for human use. Please use the dosage instructions above for use with dogs and cats.

Side Effects:

Although tolerated in the majority of people, some side effects of NAC in dogs and cats can include:

  • Vomiting
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Nausea

Regardless, if your dog or cat does not
seem to tolerate it, or you feel something is wrong, get in touch with a vet straight away as some dogs and cats may be intolerant to it.

Contraindications:

NAC is contraindicated in dogs and cats that take activated charcoal, as this will decrease the absorption of NAC. If possible separate the administration of activated charcoal from the oral administration of NAC.

If you have any doubt about
administering nutritional supplements to your pet, specially if they have never
had them before, always consult with a veterinary professional beforehand.
