FAQs

How Does Hemp Oil help my anxious dog?

Very simply, the main chemical (GLA - gamma-linolenic acid) in hemp oil works to block out the illusion of pain. Anxiety is caused by stress, which your dog then internalizes as pain. Hemp oil sends the message to your dog’s dopamine receptors that he is not in pain and balances out the stress. Hemp oil does not make your dog high. Instead, it uses the neurotransmitters that are responsible for absorption to stabilize and calm the mind and body.

The science is: Hemp seed oil can calm dogs because it interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) to reduce stress and create a sense of calm. The ECS regulates sleep, emotional processing, and other functions. Hemp oil works by connecting to receptors in the body and sending a message to the dog's dopamine receptors that it's not in pain. This helps to balance out stress and stabilize the mind and body. Depending on the size and breed of your pet some pets will feel effects within a few hours, but best results can be seen after a few weeks of continuous use when used daily.

Can my pet get high on Hemp products?

No. To be sold legally, hemp products must contain ‘non-detectable’ levels of THC. THC is the chemical that causes the psychoactive effect of feeling high. Voyager products for pets have 0.00% trace, as the oil is derived from the seed and seeds do not contain any THC.

How long does hemp for pets take to kick in?

There’s lots of variables to consider when waiting for your pet to feel any considerable effects of hemp. When it comes to hemp dog treats, there shouldn’t be any instant behavioural changes - more of a gradual boost to wellbeing as the benefits of the hemp start to take effect in the body. Keep an eye on your dog in the hours and days after feeding them hemp seed based products, and take note if there’s anything both good or untoward that may be different about them.

What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

Marijuana is not a scientific name, but actually a Mexican word that was used as part of racist anti-cannabis propaganda that started in the 1920s, to link cannabis to Mexicans. However, it’s commonly used to describe high THC cannabis. Hemp naturally contains much lower levels of THC and higher levels of CBD, which is why industrial hemp is usually used to made CBD oil.

‘Marijuana’ is a type of cannabis that has many more flowers and can be used recreationally (to get high), and it’s also the kind which is generally grown for medicinal use. Hemp plants tend to be larger and stronger and can be used to create many things, from CBD oil and medicinal remedies, to food and oil, rope, bricks, natural polymers, fibre, clothes and much more.

What are the potential risks?

As is the case with other botanical products, risks associated with hemp could include intrinsic toxic agents in the plant; species-specific adverse reactions; interactions with medications; mislabeling or plant misidentification; and toxicity from pesticides, contaminants and/or adulterants.
